To further explore the transformation of urban systems in the context of global climate change, enrich the theoretical innovation of urban science and urban design, and contribute Chinese wisdom and practical experience to the inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development of global cities, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Urban Design and Urban Science (LOUD) has been invited to participate in the Venice Architecture Biennale. Through this international platform, LOUD will discuss and showcase China’s strategies for low-carbon and green urban development.

- In 2023, Professor Maya Kramer was chosen to participate in the Arctic Circle Residency, where 30 practicing professionals across disciplines from artists and environmental historians to political scientists sailed around the Svalbard archipelago and conducted research. Shanghai Key Laboratory of Urban Design and Urban Science (LOUD) supported her excursion, along with the Office of Research and NYUSH’s ICA, and a new set of works Table of Contents, stemming from her Arctic experience will be showcased in the exhibition "Emerging Dialogues in the Midnight Sun" curated by Julie Forgues and Ted Efremoff at the Chen Art Gallery at Central Connecticut State University, from March 10 to April 11, 2025.
- On January 10th, a lecture hosted by the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Urban Design and Urban Science (LOUD), in conjunction with Shanghai Tongmu Architecture Consulting Co., Ltd., was successfully held at New York University Shanghai. This lecture featured a special invitation to Professor Surendra P. Shah, Academician of the Engineering Academies of China, the United States, Russia, India, and Greece. Professor Shah provided an in-depth sharing on the cutting-edge topic of low-carbon concrete in the context of climate change.
- On the afternoon of December 11, all Grade 9 and 10 students, led by their House Program mentors, ventured out of the school campus to conduct site visits to various companies, universities, museums, and other locations. To cater to the diverse interests and career aspirations of the students, the visits were divided into three main directions: Research Exploration, Cultural Journey, and Career Experience. Seventeen destinations, including the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, NYU Shanghai, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Agriculture and Biology, Shanghai University Engineering Training Center, Meituan, NIO, and others, attracted students to explore.
- Editor's Recommendation: Professor ChengHe Guan, Co-Director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Urban Design and Urban Science, participated in the inaugural meeting of the Working Committee of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Prosperity Alliance Shanghai Center. The United Nations Institute for Training and Research Prosperity Alliance Shanghai Center (UNITAR PAS) is a directly affiliated operational entity officially approved by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). It was established in collaboration with UNITAR and Shanghai Climate Week (SHCW) to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the global Prosperity Alliance network. On November 29, 2024, the inaugural meeting of the UNITAR Prosperity Alliance Shanghai Center Working Committee was held in Shanghai. The meeting was convened by the Prosperity Alliance Shanghai Center Working Committee, with participation from all members of the Working Committee, the International Advisory Board, and the Secretariat. Attendees joined either in person at the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange or online from locations such as Geneva, Switzerland.
