LOUD participated in the seminar on Green & Low-Carbon Airport Development Workshop sponsored by the New Development Bank
On June 27,2024, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Urban Design and Urban Science ( hereinafter referred to as " LOUD " ) was invited to participate in the Green & Low-Carbon Airport Development Workshop hosted by the New Development Bank in Taiyuan. LOUD co-founding director Chenghe Guan and researcher Shuai Tian participated in the seminar. As an expert team of the New Development Bank, LOUD participates in the zero-carbon airport project consultation of Taiyuan Wusu International Airport ( TWIA ) and helps Shanxi Aviation Industry Group ( SAIG ) to actively promote the decarbonization process of TWIA. This move aims to provide valuable experience for the low-carbon transformation of the aviation industry and promote the sustainable development of global airports.
This Workshop was attended by experts from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Boston Consulting Group, Roland Berger, China Energy Construction Group Zhejiang Electric Power Design Institute, LOUD, Tsinghua University School of Architecture, China Aviation Planning and Design General Institute, Taiyuan Wusu International Airport, Lanzhou Zhongchuan International Airport, Hohhot Shengle International Airport, Kunming Changshui International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport.
Professor Chenghe Guan, co-founding director of LOUD, shared several initiatives of zero-carbon airport soft power measures at the seminar. He elaborated on the relevant measures of zero-carbon airports from three aspects : technology and operation, environment and standards, norms and dissemination. In addition, Professor Guan proposed the idea of creating a " climate city park " in a zero-carbon airport through " urban perception + digital technology, " which provides a frontier application scenario and implementation path for Shanxi Province in the construction of soft power of zero-carbon airports. Professor Guan said that the zero-carbon innovation of urban infrastructure is imperative, and it is also very consistent with the research on the low-carbon city direction of LOUD. He hopes to open up a new path for the future development of low-carbon / zero-carbon cities through the three-phase zero-carbon project of Taiyuan Airport, and also lay the foundation for the cooperation between the LOUD and multilateral development banks and development financial institutions.
He Tian, the project leader of the New Development Bank, summarized the results of the seminar. Focusing on technological innovation and engineering feasibility, and drawing on the innovative measures of energy conservation and carbon reduction in Chinese and foreign airports, the experts discussed in depth how airports can achieve large-scale zero-carbon energy supply and demand-side flexible energy use. The guests also had an in-depth exchange on how to achieve a large proportion of renewable energy consumption on the spot, how to build a zero-carbon energy system at the airport, and how to design a scientific carbon emission management plan, and came up with useful suggestions to deal with the common challenges in the development of zero-carbon airports. The Taiyuan zero-carbon airport project is expected to promote the introduction of relevant standards and policies.
As the first provincial and ministerial key laboratory of Shanghai New York University, is committed to international frontiers, focusing on urban science issues, carrying out research on low-carbon cities, digital cities, and blue-green cities, and providing solutions for urban low-carbon construction, urban digital construction, and future urban healthy development.
