郭展研究个人的出行行为和影响决策过程的创新方法，以产生更好的社会成果，例如减少拥堵和碳排放。在微观层面上，他关注出行者如何看待旅行选择和属性，以及感知与现实之间存在哪些差异。他同时也关注强化、改变甚至欺骗这种认知以促进“正确”行为的能力，以及用于实现这一目标的方法。在宏观层面上，他对停车和街道标准、强制性经济适用住房和速度限制等法规对可达性、公平性和安全性的影响感兴趣，特别关注这些法规之间的（脱）联系、市场力量和消费者偏好。
